As someone who spends a lot of weekends behind a grill or smoker, I’ve learned that temperature is everything. A great cut of meat can turn disappointing in a hurry if you’re relying on guesswork. That’s why I’ve become increasingly interested in wireless meat thermometers, and after spending time with the ChefsTemp ProTemp 2 Plus, I can confidently say it’s one of the more feature-packed options I’ve used.
ChefsTemp brings cooking into the digital age. Lots of companies are trying to do the same, so what makes them special? ChefsTemp, with the ProTemp 2 Plus, tracks the ambient grill temperature through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. While real-time notifications (through the phone or on the Apple Watch), unlocks achieving perfect results from anywhere. The ChefsTemp ProTemp 2 Plus is entirely designed to take the guesswork out of grilling.
Unboxing:
The first thing I notice is the probe itself. ChefsTemp uses an ultra-thin 4.55mm needle-style probe that slides into meat with very little resistance. Compared to some bulkier wireless probes I’ve used in the past, this one leaves a much smaller puncture mark. When I’m cooking expensive steaks or thick pork chops, I appreciate not having to create a large hole just to monitor temperatures.
Connectivity is another major strength. The ProTemp 2 Plus supports both Bluetooth and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, allowing for effectively unlimited-range monitoring when connected through Wi-Fi. Notifications arrive directly on my phone, which means I don’t have to stay glued to the grill during long cooks.
Experience:
I test the ProTemp 2 Plus on a pair of thick cut filet mignons at a family cookout. Before placing the steaks on the grill, I simply insert the probe. With the app connected, I monitor the temperatures from my phone rather than constantly fussing over the grill.
Since I’m no longer tied to the grill, I help prepare side dishes in the kitchen. Instead of repeatedly opening the lid and losing heat, I easily check the app for updates. The results are a pair of steaks that hit my target temperature almost perfectly and wow my home team.
It works so well that I decided to put the ChefsTemp ProTemp 2 Plus capability to the test during an overnight brisket smoke. Instead of making constant trips outside, I checked temperatures from bed and received alerts as the meat approached key milestones. It’s hard to overstate that level of convenience when running a long smoke that stretches into the early morning hours.
The ChefsTemp ProTemp 2 Plus is so convenient, easy to use, and delivers such great results that I start to wonder how I could go back to grilling the old way.

Features:
The ChefsTemp ProTemp 2 Plus has a lot of great features. One feature that stands out to me is the multi-sensor design. The probe contains multiple internal sensors along with a dedicated ambient temperature sensor. This provides a more complete picture of what’s happening inside the meat and around it during cooking.
Rather than relying on a single reading point, the thermometer gives a broader understanding of the cooking process. Something even a novice will appreciate. But for the grill master, this is a dream come true and takes grilling to the next level.
The ProTemp 2 Plus is also built for demanding cooking environments. The probe can withstand ambient temperatures up to 1000°F, making it suitable for direct grilling, high-heat searing, and other intense cooking applications (like deep frying). This level of durability and versatility is something every pitmaster can appreciate.
Additionally, the battery performance is equally impressive. The charging stand includes a built-in 10,000mAh battery. And the probe itself is designed for extended cooking sessions. For backyard cooks who regularly tackle briskets, pork shoulders, or other all-day projects, having dependable battery life is a huge advantage.
Other Observations:
Another feature I appreciate is the large standalone display on the charging station. While most of my monitoring happens through the app, it’s nice to have a dedicated screen nearby when I’m working around the grill. The stand is also water-resistant, which provides additional peace of mind during unpredictable weather.
For charcoal enthusiasts, the ProTemp 2 Plus offers an interesting bonus. It integrates with the ChefsTemp Breezo temperature-control fan (sold separately), allowing for automated temperature management during charcoal cooks. While not everyone will need this functionality, serious charcoal BBQ fans may find it a compelling addition to their setup.
The ProTemp 2 Plus features a patented wireless probe design that ensures more precise ambient temperature readings. This addresses many common inaccuracies found in other similar products caused by proximity to cold protein. Additionally, the extreme heat durability and automated “set-and-forget” convenience features are ideal for the perfect cook every time.
Summary:
After spending time with the ChefsTemp ProTemp 2 Plus, I come away impressed by its combination of accuracy, connectivity, durability, and thoughtful design. The ultra-thin probe, Wi-Fi monitoring, multi-sensor technology, and high-temperature capability make it a versatile tool for everything from weeknight steaks to overnight barbecue sessions. For cooks looking to remove much of the uncertainty from grilling and smoking, this thermometer delivers features that feel genuinely useful rather than gimmicky.
Overall, the ProTemp 2 Plus has earned a spot in my regular cooking rotation, and that’s probably the strongest endorsement I can give any piece of BBQ gear. If you are looking to upgrade your cooking, smoking, BBQing, and or grilling game this summer – then the ChefsTemp ProTemp 2 Plus is right for you.
