Opening the Brunt box I’m immediately impressed by what I see. While presentation alone isn’t indicative of quality – it does reveal an attention to detail and craftsmanship that I desire. Lifting back the polishing clothe and Brunt logoed paper reveals the remarkable Mulder Welted boot. Not only is it expertly engineered and designed, it also looks commanding and ready for the challenge.
Lacing up the Mulder Welted for the first time, I immediately notice the secure fit with a comfortable deep and secure heel. I personally have a narrow heel, so the fact that my heel locks in and doesn’t slip is a huge bonus. This is because the ankle collar is triple-padded helping to stabilize, protect, and cushion. The Mulder also features a Nano Composite Safety Toe, however it is so comfortable that I can hardly tell. It is also 15 percent lighter than steel and does not conduct heat or cold.
Experience:
The Mulder’s comfort doesn’t stop there – the insole is extremely cushioned. It features a nonstick top layer so everything stays in place when I put on and take off the boots. Fit with a memory foam midlayer and a cushy bottom layer, the insole also has an anti-odor treatment foot pad. This means that even after repetitive use it stays comfortable without the dreaded boot funk. I love that the sole also has a lightweight nylon shank which gives me additional foot support for all day comfort.
Wearing the Mulder day after day I am surprised at just how well it supports the ankle (The Mulder has a six-inch height). Built with thick durable USA-sourced leather that stands up to corrosion, I have confidence that these boots will stand up to just about anything. I love that the Mulder has a fully waterproof design with breathable waterproof membrane and waterproof leather to lock out moisture. This keeps my socks and feet dry from the early morning dew or even from a water logged worksite. This also means my feet don’t overheat, but feel comfortable even after the longest day.
Features:
One of the most remarkable features of the Mulder Welted is its outsole. Walking in the Mulder I can feel it grip the ground. I feel more confident and powerful as I work. The custom outsole features extra-tractioned heel and toe strike zones. This 90-degree defined heel helps with secure footing on ladders because the heel catches the ladder rung, which keeps the foot from sliding forward and off the ladder.
The ultra-durable Goodyear welt construction is resoleable which is important to me since I often wear out my sole first. Thus, enhancing the longevity to an already great boot! Finally, the Mulder features reinforced heel kick plates and TPU toe caps for additional abrasion resistance. This gives the Mulder some of its distinctive look that I just love.
For those that need it the Mulder Welted meets many work standards. This includes the ASTM F2413-18 M I/75 C/75 EH standards and ASTM F2913-19 SATRA non-slip testing standards. Additionally, the outsole and midsole meet ASTM D47-06 903 oil and isooctane chemical resistant standards.
