I’ve been excited to experience the new Costa Whitetip Pro sunglasses ever since I heard about their release. The Costa Pro sunglasses series are a redefined legacy favorite for modern adventures. With an aggressively sleek frame and chiseled design the new Whitetip Pros are as stylish and fierce as their namesake.
First Look:
Costa created the Whitetip for their Pro Series as an ideal companion for improving any experience on the water. Trying them on for the first time I can feel the difference. The frame fits comfortably and securely. The temple arms run straight from the frame to the ear with an almost hockey stick shape design. They fit close to my face with a streamline profile.
While the Whitetip Pro offer a lot of options, I am using the copper silver polarized lenses. The copper silver lenses are a mirrored finish and made for intra-coastal stream and sight fishing. These are perfect for variable light conditions, and the polarized performance is incredible.
Experience:
I experienced this first hand recently on a trip to Maui. The new Whitetip Pros work well in a variety of circumstance and situations. At the beach and in the bright light I can see clearly into the water even in chop and surf situations. The lenses feature a wrap around design that blocks more of the outside and peripheral light that other glasses often miss. I find that I have reduced eye fatigue even after a full day in the sun.
The Whitetip Pros are also great in the variable light conditions of the jungle and by streams with swift moving water. I still can see clearly into the water and have great visibility in filtered sunlight and shade. They don’t work well indoors, however, as I often found them too dark to see well or navigate hotel corridors. Overall, the Whitetip Pros polarized lenses give me incredible performance and versatility, and truly enhance my on-water experiences.
Fit:
This frame features Costa’s cutting-edge Pro tech, which is a vented and fully adjustable nose pad. This means I get a customizable fit with sweat channels and eyewire drains designed to keep my vision clear. These frames will especially fit well for those with a high nose bridge and lower cheekbones (part of their design). The hooding and side shields are a great addition for clearer vision. With new stickier Hydrolite® and metal keeper slots, the Whitetip Pro frames stay on my face while keeping the sun and sweat out of my eyes.
The temple arm keeps the Whitetip Pro snug on my face without pressing too hard. I do find them a little more snug than other Costa sunglasses. I wish they had a similar pressure as this particular pair gave me a little bit of a tension headache at first until I got use to wearing them. However, this slim profile and close fit help tremendously. I like how the frame design is straight across the eyebrows and temple as they fit well under a hat or baseball cap.
Accessories and Cleaning Kit:
Another amazing thing about Costa is their fantastic array of products and accessories. For this adventure I used the Adjustable C-Line Retainer and the Glass Cleaning Kit. Both of these products proved to me that I can depend on Costa for all my adventure needs.
The Glass Cleaning Kit is amazing. It comes with a cleaning spray, cleaning clothe, and a little zippered carrying case for easy storage. It is super sleek and easy to pack for quick access on the go. Traveling in the variable conditions and environments of Maui created lots of glass cleaning opportunities. The Whitetip Pros took on everything from saltwater to sunscreen, sand, pool water, fresh water, rain, dirt, etc. However, a couple of pump action squirts from the cleaning solution and the gentle fabric of the cleaning clothe had my sunglasses in mint condition in moments.
The Adjustable C-line Retainer is also fantastic. It easily attaches and allows for quick transitions of sunglasses without fear of losing them in the dirt or surf. They are really helpful when I need to remove my sunglasses to tie a line or adjust for other reasons. Whether I need to wipe my face or transition between activities while carrying other items/hands full – the C-line Retainer kept my new Whitetip Pros safely around my neck.
Summary:
Costa continues to prove they make some of the best sunglasses and accessories for your on-water adventures. If you need a few accessories to keep your sunglasses secure or clean and preforming your best you’ll appreciate adding the Costa Glass Cleaning Kit and the Adjustable C-line Retainer.
The new Whitetip Pros are a refined legacy favorite that appeals to adventures wanting top performance. With polarized lenses that work well in variable light conditions, the Whitetip Pros are as versatile as they are functional.
